Renewable Energy
General information
Combating climate change and increasing the share of renewable energy in the overall energy mix is a key priority of the Government of Pakistan. Pakistan offers suitable conditions for generation of renewable energy both from solar and wind sources. In addition, being an agricultural country with large dairy and crop sectors, there is also the possibility of producing renewable biogas from the biomass residue of these sectors.
In 2020 the Government adopted the Alternative Renewable Energy Policy 2019 which envisages an ambitious target of having 20 % renewables in the energy mix by 2025 and 30 % by 2030. The share of solar and wind is 70-30.
